FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I book my session?
For newborn sessions, I recommend booking in your second trimester. This reserves a spot on my calendar as I take a limited number of newborns a month. For family sessions, it’s best to contact me at least 1 month in advance to make sure I can fit you in. I do take last minute sessions if I’m available.
What kind of photo sessions do you offer?
We offer newborn lifestyle sessions, newborn studio sessions, family sessions, newborn hospital sessions, baby studio sessions, cake smash sessions and maternity sessions. We also photograph a limited number of engagements and weddings.
How do I book my session?
To book your session, I require a signed contract and a 50% non-refundable retainer. The contract and session fee can be completed online. I usually use paypal for my session fees. The remaining fee is due at your session via check or paypal.
Where does my session take place?
Newborn and baby studio sessions take place in my home studio in Olathe, Kansas. Family sessions take place at a location of your choice. We work together to come up with a great place for your photos. I also offer lifestyle newborn and family sessions. These take place in your home.
Do you offer mini sessions?
I offer speciality mini sessions several times a year. I do not offer mini sessions on a regular basis though. I typically have outdoor mini sessions in the spring and fall. Then I have studio minis for different holidays.
How long will my session last?
Both studio newborn and lifestyle newborn sessions last 2-3 hours. This leaves time for feeding and changing baby when needed. Family sessions last 1-2 hours. In studio baby session last 45 min to 1 hour.
How old does my baby need to be for a newborn session?
I have two types of newborn photos. Either studio photos in my Olathe studio or lifestyle photos in your home. Studio photos are best done at 7-12 days old. Lifestyle can be done up to 3 weeks old. See my portfolio for differences in the sessions. Remember these are ideal times, I will take older newborns but they may or may not cooperate as well as the younger babies.

When is the best time for a maternity session?
I recommend doing your maternity session at 32-36 weeks. This is typically before mom’s start to become swollen/retain water. It also allows us to capture your growing belly in case baby decides to come early.

My studio is stocked with hats, headbands, wraps, pants, baskets, bowls, and blankets. You are welcome to bring a prop or two.
Do you offer first year sessions?
Yes. Contact me to learn more about the ELS First Year Club. I offer maternity, newborn, 4 month, 6 month, 9 month and 1 year sessions. Cake smash 1 year sessions are also available.
How do we plan our session with you?
Prior to booking your session, we will decide on a date and time for your session. Closer to the session we collaborate to decide on a location unless you already have one in mind. About a week prior to your session, you will receive a questionnaire to fill out. This helps me learn about your family and gives me ideas on how to connect with your children. It also helps me understand what you are looking for in your session. For newborn sessions, it gives me an idea on what colors/props you like.
What should we expect at our family session?
I aim for your session to be fun and relaxing. I’m very patient with children and try to capture kids the best I can. I encourage parents not to stress about the session and not to yell at the kiddos.
What should we expect at our newborn session?
Newborn sessions last 2-3 hours typically. For lifestyle sessions, I come to your home and typically photograph in the nursery, living room and master bedroom. I love capturing the moments between baby and mom/dad/siblings. I also photograph baby alone and do a few posed type shots in a bowl or using things in your home. For studio sessions, I keep the studio extremely warm so baby will sleep the whole time. (You may be uncomfortable from the heat so dress in layers.) This allows me to do the different curly poses shown on my website. Mom and dad are welcome to watch the posing or can sit back and relax. Sibling and family shots can also be included. I like to do those shots at the end of the session. So it’s best that siblings come at the end. My studio is not large enough for siblings to hang out in for several hours.
When will my photos be ready to view?
For family portraits and baby sessions, it takes about 2 weeks to receive your photos in an online gallery. For newborn sessions, it takes a bit longer, 2-3 weeks. Weddings take 4-6 weeks.
How do we receive are photos?
For all sessions, I upload your images to an online gallery for you to view. You are then able to download them if you’d like. Mini sessions, milestone sessions are sent through the gallery to download. Be sure to back up your images. Regular sessions and weddings are also uploaded to an online gallery for download but also include a USB drive that is sent to your home.
Do you offer prints, albums and canvases?
Yes. Gift prints, mounted prints, canvases, birth announcements, christmas cards and more are available through your online gallery. I also offer custom albums to display your precious images.
